Academic Policy

Merit Basis Only :

  • Admission will be based on the final score of marks that is determined by cummulation of the standard Xll ( Physics, Chemistry & Biology ) mark and the Optometric admission test.

Admission intake per year :

  • First Professional year = 40
  • Third Year = 20
Eligibility :
First Professional Year:
The candidate seeking admission from the first year of optometry
  • Should have passed the Higher Secondary exam (Std Xll) or its equivalent from a recognized body with a minimum of 40% marks in Physics,Chemistry & Biology (Mathematics - optional).
  • Should have completed 17 years of age on 31st December or earliest of the year of admission of the course.


Third Professional Year:
The candidate seeking admission directly into the third year of optometry

[They have to undergo 1year Academic year & 1year clinical Intern ship]

  • Should have completed 19 years of age on 31 December or earliest of the year of admission of the course.
  • Should have secured a minimum of 50% in the aggregate in the final qualifying exam.
  • Should have completed a three year of Diploma in Optometry from Recognised University.
  • Or a Diploma course of minimum of two years duration.
  • People who have finished their diploma in Optometry from recognized college can take up admission.


Method of Selection
  • Application will be called through an advertisement in the leading Dailies (Times of India, Indain Express, Mid - Day ) during the Month of May, June & July every year.
  • Application should reach the administrative office of the Aditya Jyot Institute of Optometry before the specified dates. 


  • Medium of Instruction: English.
  • Strict action will be taken against students who do not abide by the rules and regulations of the institute, which may stretch as for as cancellation of admission. The students are excepted to go though the separate booklet on rules & regulations.
  • The regular working hours is between 8am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday (However, the students may be called on Sunday for extra lectures, guest lectures, work shops, Eye screening programs or any other associated academic activities the Institute.
  • The students are expected to be in attendance at all the clinical and laboratory sessions.
  • Examinations will be conducted periodically to form the basis for the academic grades of the student.
  • The quality to the students work is indicated by the following grades: Excellent (A); Good (B); Acceptable (C); Passing but below the desired standard (D); Failure (F);
  • All failures the required course must be removed by repeating it successfully within a specific period time.
  • No candidate will be permitted to appear for the examination unless he/ she has put in not less than 80 percent attendance in each subject.
  • Leave of absence in the case of illness should be proved with suitable medical certificate.
  • Defaulters would have to pay a penalty as per the fine declared. Funds collected towards penalty will be utilized for academic purpose.

Powers to modify the regulation- the board of studies and the management reserves the right to alter/ delete/ add to any of the regulations during the course of study as circumstances may warrant from time to time and to implement them at such date or may be notified for the purpose, in order to maintain academic excellence of the students.
